Who is Affected? This epidemic can affect an individual at any stage of childhood starting with the growing fetus all the way into adolescence. Childhood obesity is not necessarily a disease a child is born with. This can develop later on in childhood due to things such as, environmental factors and genetic development.
|
Why?
A child learns the way of life from their parents. Parents can cause lifelong damage to a child's development by teaching them habits that will lead them to live an unhealthy lifestyle. Some children are prone to childhood obesity due to their genetic makeup. Today's children are being born into what is known as "Generation Y". Technology influences children's behavior and takes them away from the outside world.
Where
Childhood obesity is prevalent globally. Recent studies have shown that the United States has dramatically surpassed other countries percentages of obese children.
